Soluble, synthetic, and semi synthetic metal working fluids or coolants provide an excellent environment for the growth of a wide range of microorganisms including bacteria, molds and yeast. If allowed to grow, these microorganisms can have a detrimental effects on these fluids. For example, bacteria destroy lubricity characteristics causing emulsions to split. They can reduce the pH of the fluid, causing corrosion. Some forms of bacteria further produce objectionable odors. Fungi can form large masses which clog filters, lines and, in some cases, lead to system shutdown. Additionally, fungi generate foul odors and can cause corrosion.
Rohm and Haas provide customers with a range of biocides that are highly efficient at low use levels with a broad spectrum activity, and specially adapted to the treatment of concentrates and emulsions, including KATHON® MW, KATHON® 893 and KORDEK® LX5000.
